Hi, I’m Rob. I have over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry, I began my career behind the bar at 18 and quickly moved into management by 19. My journey has taken me through a variety of roles, including significant contributions to start-up restaurants and helping them launch successfully.
In 2019, I took a transformative step by relocating to New Zealand, where I discovered my passion for teaching as a hospitality tutor at New Zealand Management Academies. It was incredibly fulfilling to share my experiences with diverse groups in such a beautiful setting. Upon returning to the UK, I worked on a community project converting an old Sainsbury’s into the South Coast’s largest indoor skatepark.
In 2022, I was eager to return to teaching and found an ideal opportunity with Yuzu’s Hospitality Skills Bootcamp programme. This role allows me to merge my extensive industry experience with my passion for training, helping to shape the next generation of hospitality professionals.
Since joining Kiwi & Yuzu in July 2024, my proudest achievement has been completing my first bootcamp. The learners’ enthusiasm and engagement during the programme were incredibly rewarding. Our first practical skills day was a highlight, where learners had the chance to master barista-level coffee making and gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment. Their progress and eagerness to learn were inspiring and will undoubtedly enhance their confidence as they embark on their hospitality careers.
The best part of working at Kiwi & Yuzu is witnessing the growth and excitement of our learners from across the country. I am thrilled about the future and eager to see how we can continue to improve and expand our programs.
As a trainer, my approach centres on actively listening and adapting to each learner’s needs, creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable and confident. I emphasise real-world experience to clarify concepts and foster a deeper understanding, ensuring that my learners are well-prepared for the challenges of the hospitality industry.
Hospitality Skills Bootcamps and apprenticeships are crucial for developing a skilled, adaptable workforce. These programmes offer practical, job-ready training that fits various schedules, addresses skill gaps, and keeps participants up-to-date with industry trends. They provide recognised certifications and real-world experience, essential for career advancement in the dynamic field of hospitality.
