A parents guide to Apprenticeships with Yuzu

As a parent or guardian, you play a crucial role in supporting your child to explore the world of opportunities available to them for life after school. Here at Yuzu, we understand it can be difficult to know where to start or keep up with the latest opportunities available. This is where we come in.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An Apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme that enables your child to learn on the job, develop their skills, achieve nationally recognised Level 2-5 qualifications, earn a wage and build a rewarding career. It can take between one and six years to complete an Apprenticeship depending on which one you choose, what level it is and your previous experience. Apprenticeships are funded from contributions made by the government and the employer; your child will not be responsible for any cost or fees for their training.

Research undertaken by the National Apprenticeships Service (NAS) shows that Apprenticeships are an optimal way of training, developing and skilling people for the future. Helping businesses secure a supply of people with the skills and qualities they need, and which were often not available on the external job market.

What are the benefits of an Apprenticeship?

– Fully Funded

For many individuals, the prospect of racking up tens of thousands of pounds of debt can be a crucial factor when deciding whether to go to university or pursue alternative options like Apprenticeships. It’s funded from contributions made by the government and your employer.

– Start at any time

Did you know that your child can start an Apprenticeship at any time throughout the year? Unlike college or university, they don’t have to wait until September to start. This means that if your child is currently in college and considering dropping out, they can enrol on one of our training programmes or apply for any of our live Apprenticeship vacancies straightaway. The course length of an Apprenticeship can vary.

Some can be completed within one year. Other specialised courses can take up to six years to complete an Apprenticeship depending on which one you choose, what level it is and your previous experience.

– Earn while you learn

An Apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience, and get paid. You’re an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an Apprenticeship, you’ll have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career.

What qualifications are on offer?

Many people assume Apprenticeships are only for manual practical trades such as becoming an electrician or a plumber, but this is not the case! There is now a wealth of professions that offer Apprenticeship opportunities: Childcare, Customer Service, Clinical Healthcare, Education, Marketing, Catering and Hospitality, and many more!
